PCR SWAB TESTS
JSAS sponsor, Mayapada Hosipitals has set-up packages for the PCR Swab Test for the detection of Covid-19. With these tests increasingly being needed for travel amongst other reasons, they have asked us to share this information with our members.
Mayapada Hospitals can facilitate a *RT-PCR* or *Swab Test* in all of its hospital units. With an accuracy of over 90%, the WHO and the Minister of Health consider the Swab Test as the most accurate procedure for the diagnosis of the Covid-19 virus.
RT-PCR (Real Time- Polymerase Chain Reaction) or commonly called the Swab Test is a diagnostic test for Covid-19 virus. This test is different from the Rapid Test in which rapid tests work by detecting antibodies produced by the body when infected with the virus. PCR, on the other hand, detects the presence of the Covid-19 virus itself through identification of genetic material (RNA) by a process called Polymerase Chain Reaction.
For this procedure, medical personnel will collect mucus sample taken from the nasopharyngeal area, namely the back of the nose or the upper throat, using a swab tip. This sample will be extracted at the Mayapada Hospital independent Bio Safety Level 2 laboratory which is part of an official laboratory network that is recognized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
