New Chieftain’s Message
Dear Members, Friends and Sponsors of the Society
It is a great honour and privilege to have been nominated as Chieftain for this the Centenary year of The Java St Andrew Society. As an itinerant Scot who has lived in 10 countries over the years, the local St Andrew’s Society in each of these locations has been a great way to meet fellow Scots, to share in the celebration of Scotland and all things Scottish and to generally meet a broader group of friends. It is my pleasure to take up the mantle of leading the Society for the current year and together with my fellow Committee members, look forward to building on everything that has been achieved beforehand whilst adapting the Society to what is the every changing environment we face here in Jakarta.
A word of thanks to the outgoing Chieftain, William Gray, for bringing me onto the Committee last year and for his tireless energy and passion which he put into making sure the Society had a successful year of events. I know William will continue to support the activities of the Society as do all the former Chieftains and collectively, I would like to thank them all in advance for their continued participation and guidance.
John and Sarah Brown provided great support to the running of the Society last year and I am pleased to have them back on the Committee this year to ensure we maintain a strong thread of continuity. Joining them on the Committee for 2019/20 are Andrew and Octa Abram, Karen and Andrew Clydesdale and Kevin Kealey; Andrew Abram taking on the mantle of Deputy Chieftain. Our first Committee meetings and discussions have been very productive so I am confident that we will again host some great events as well as us making the base of the Society even stronger as we enter the 2nd 100 years of its presence here in Jakarta.
Many hands make light work and so we would always welcome new members to join the Committee and/or to help out at events. If you are interested please send me an email at email@example.com.
The Society has benefitted from the support of long standing sponsors and so at the outset of the year I would like to thank them for their continued sponsorship of our activities as without them we could not deliver such good events. A special word of thanks to Asian Tigers, The Rio Club, Now Jakarta and Jakarta Land as well as all the sponsors who help us with gifts and prizes for individual events.
Lastly, I hope that we will see you at our future events and thank you all for the past support.
