The JSAS Committee is always looking for opportunities to add events for JSAS members and so this list will potentially expand as more activities are confirmed. However to enable members to look out for and plan for the main events we have listed the outline of activities below. Being early in the New Year the below information will evolve as the planning is locked in and please contact the Chieftain if you wish more information at this time or are interested to support any or all of these events through your participation and/or sponsorship
Thompson Cup Golf Matches
A popular and regular on the Jakarta golfing fixture list is our own Calcutta Cup match with the Auld Enemy, England. Held twice a year, before St George’s Day and before St Andrew’s Day Cengkareng Golf Club, the dates for this year’s matches are 18th April 2020 and 21st November 2020. The format will be 4-Ball Better Ball matches with teams of around 16 players a side followed by a BBQ at the Club House.
Please contact Captain Roger Finnie to confirm your interest in playing in the fixture: email@example.com.
Whisky Tasting on Friday 18th September 2020 (Tentative)
Want to enjoy an evening of fun and frivolity whilst also showing off your knowledge of Whisky. Join us on Friday 18th of September 2020 for this popular event where we will bring at least 6 different whiskies for you to identify with the winner getting a special bottle to take home. The entry price is still to be confirmed but will include food and all tastings. For those wanting other drinks as well, we will be offering beer, wine and soft drinks. Please contact the Chieftain at firstname.lastname@example.org for tickets and more information on the evening. Look out for the special page for more information when this is available.
Centenary St Andrew’s Ball on Saturday 14th November 2020
Along with the Burns’ Supper, the 2020 St Andrew’s Ball will be our showcase event during the Centenary year for JSAS. The venue is already confirmed at one of Jakarta’s 5* Hotels and a great line up of entertainment is being organized. Due to the size of the venue, tickets will be limited so please book early to avoid disappointment – last year was significantly over subscribed and we expect brisk sales based on initial interest in the event. Ticket sales have opened and please contact the Chieftain at email@example.com to get more information and to reserve your table. See the special page which will be posted later in the year for more information.
Burn’s Supper on Saturday 23rd January 2021 (tentative)
Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet, is the only poet globally who’s works are celebrated with such pomp and ceremony so a Burns Supper is not an event to be missed. Following a traditional format, the Burns’ Supper is also a night of great entertainment, story telling and of course recounting the great man’s works over the course of the evening’s activities. Everyone knows works by the Bard of Ayrshire even if they do not know they know. The date is fixed as above so mark your calendar and look out for updates on the launch of ticket sales soon.
Jakarta Highland Games 18th – 21st June 2020
The highland games are always a popular day out for all the family. It has been a couple of years since the last holding of this event and the Jakarta Highland Games Committee are presently finalizing the details of the logistics so we can announce the details of the event for mid-2020. More details have already been posted on its special page so please check it out.
Social events hosted by JSAS and/or coordinated with/by Britcham, the British School, the Scottish Development Board, and with other like-minded Societies in Jakarta and are shared to members as they arise: largely via our facebook page: @JavaStAndrewSociety, so please follow us there for more up to date information.
JSAS has held many successful events over the years and photos from some of these events are posted here for you to enjoy and/or download.
Many of the events held by the Society are naturally before the advent of digital cameras and camera phones but we would still like to add as many past pictures to our gallery as possible. If you have any pictures not already shown from these or other events held by JSAS please send them to the Chieftain at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If the files are heavy we would appreciate if they could be sent via a drop-box or similar application for ease of downloading.
