100 Years in Jakarta

2021/2022 Events

The JSAS Committee is always looking for opportunities to add events for JSAS members and so this list will potentially expand as more activities are confirmed. However to enable members to look out for and plan for the main events we have listed the outline of activities below. Being early in the New Year the below information will evolve as the planning is locked in and please contact the Chieftain if you wish more information at this time or are interested to support any or all of these events through your participation and/or sponsorship

Thompson Cup Golf Matches

A popular and regular on the Jakarta golfing fixture list is our own Calcutta Cup match with the Auld Enemy, England. Held twice a year, before St George’s Day and before St Andrew’s Day Cengkareng Golf Club, the dates for this year’s matches are now 17th April 2021 and 13th November 2021. The format will be 4-Ball Better Ball matches with teams of around 16 players a side followed by a BBQ at the Club House.

Please contact Captain Roger Finnie to confirm your interest in playing in the fixture: rogerfinnie@yahoo.com.

Whisky Tasting : Details to be announced

Want to enjoy an evening of fun and frivolity whilst also showing off your knowledge of Whisky. Join us on Friday [TBC] 2021 for this popular event where we will bring at least 6 different whiskies for you to identify with the winner getting a special bottle to take home. The entry price is still to be confirmed but will include food and all tastings. For those wanting other drinks as well, we will be offering beer, wine and soft drinks. Please contact the Chieftain at chieftain@thejavastandrewsociety.com for tickets and more information on the evening. Look out for the special page for more information when this is available.

St Andrew’s Ball: Tentatively set for 27th November 2021 subject to social distancing conditions

Due to the COVID-19 the 2020 Ball was cancelled and we held a small gathering on Monday 30th November to mark this important occasion in the Scottish calendar. Further details for 2021 will be sent out once the social distancing requirements and guidelines around the planned timing of the event become clearer.

Along with the Burns’ Supper, the St Andrew’s Ball is our showcase event for JSAS each year. The venue is already confirmed at one of Jakarta’s 5* Hotels and a great line up of entertainment is being organized. Due to the size of the venue, tickets will be limited so please book early to avoid disappointment – last year was significantly over subscribed and we expect brisk sales based on initial interest in the event. Ticket sales have opened and please contact the Chieftain at chieftain@thejavastandrewsociety.com to get more information and to reserve your table. See the special page which will be posted later in the year for more information.

Burn’s Supper 2021: now cancelled COVID restrictions

Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet, is the only poet globally who’s works are celebrated with such pomp and ceremony so a Burns Supper is not an event to be missed. Following a traditional format, the Burns’ Supper is also a night of great entertainment, story telling and of course recounting the great man’s works over the course of the evening’s activities. Everyone knows works by the Bard of Ayrshire even if they do not know they know. Sadly due to ongoing restrictions on social gatherings we have decided to cancel the event in 2021 and look forward to celebrating this special night again in 2022.

Jakarta Highland Games: Postponed

The highland games are always a popular day out for all the family. It has been a few years since the last holding of this event and the Jakarta Highland Games The 2020 event needed to be cancelled due to the ongoing Covid pandemic and the committee will consider the hosting of future games when the environment permits.

Past Events

JSAS has held many successful events over the years and photos from some of these events are posted here for you to enjoy and/or download.

Many of the events held by the Society are naturally before the advent of digital cameras and camera phones but we would still like to add as many past pictures to our gallery as possible. If you have any pictures not already shown from these or other events held by JSAS please send them to the Chieftain at chieftain@thejavastandrewsociety.com.

If the files are heavy we would appreciate if they could be sent via a drop-box or similar application for ease of downloading.
