Chieftain’s Message January 2020

Dear Members, Friends and Sponsors of the Society

Firstly, a Happy New Year and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2020 to everyone.

Whilst we look forward to what is happening in the Society during 2020 below, I would like to share again our appreciation to everyone who joined us at the 2019 St Andrew’s Ball and to our sponsors who generously supported us. A full house of slightly over 250 guests attended the event at the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta and we certainly celebrated St Andrew’s Day with a wonderful evening, partying the night away to the wee hours. Please visit our website for a summary of the evening.

Always falling hot on the heels of the New Year is the Burns Supper which this year will be held on 25th January 2020 at the MO Bar in the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. As of writing, we have a few tickets left for this special event and so if you are interested in attending please send an email to The Chieftain at chieftain@thejavastandrewsociety.com.

Later in the year we will be hosting the Thompson Cup match against the St George’s Society, tentatively scheduled for 18th April 2020 with the return match in November as usual just ahead of the 2020 St Andrew’s Ball. More on these events will follow in future communications.

In between, we are pleased to share that, making a return after a hiatus of 5 years, will be the 37th edition of the Jakarta Highland Games, with the main event planned for 20th June 2020. In addition to the Gathering, there are a series of supporting events including a golf competition on 18th June and Scotland in Concert on 19th June. Again, please check out the website for more information as we have posted the available details on a dedicated page.

Of course, an event of this magnitude requires significant support, both financially and with volunteers. If you are willing and able to help out, the Chairman of the Jakarta Highland Games Committee, Alistair Spiers OBE, would be very happy to hear from you to discuss further. Please contact him directly at speirs@phoenix.co.id.

Thank you all for your continued patronage and support of the Society.

Kind regards

Roger Finnie
