Chieftain’s Message

Dear Members, Friends and Sponsors of the Society

To our Celtic cousins from Ireland, warm congratulations on the occasion of St Patrick’s Day yesterday although of course, in the current circumstances, most celebrations will have been muted.

In light of the spread of COVID-19, the Java St Andrew Society’s Committee has been discussing the Society’s upcoming activities with a view to following best practices being shared by the government and medical professionals. In light of those and in consultation with other stakeholders, I wish to announce that:

  1. The AGM for the Society planned for the end of March is postponed and a new date will be advised once the situation is normalized. Following the call for candidates for the Chieftain’s position for 2020/21, 1 nomination only was received which is for the current Deputy Chieftain, Andrew Abram. In view of this, I will work with Andrew and the rest of the Committee to coordinate the Society’s activities for the coming year pending his official appointment in the AGM.
  2. The Jakarta Highland Games will be postponed to a later date yet to be determined.

Planning for the main events of the Society, which in any case occur late in the year/early 2021, continue and these are updated onto our website for all to peruse in those quieter moments. We will update everyone closer to the dates and once we are clearer on the overall situation locally.

In the meantime, if anyone has any questions regarding the Society’s activities or wishes to get their name down early for tables at the Ball and/or Burns Supper then please do not hesitate to reach me via the Chieftain’s email: chieftain@thejavastandrewsociety.com.

Thank you all for your continued patronage and support of the Society.

Kind regards

Roger Finnie
